Sunday, 2 March 1969 – planned military training, Russian forces were practicing on how to defend from an aggressor. The Dalnerechensky (Дальнереченский) unit of Border Guard took part in the exercise, defending the Russian-Chinese border on Ussuri, close to Damansky Island. Most of the people and equipment were moved deeper (50 km) into USSR. The border perimeters were manned with only 30 people each.
